GDP Case Study : Gateshead Council
Farrah has also designed and delivered with her team of associates a diversity awareness programme to fifteen thousand employees of Gateshead Council over three years.
As Project Director, Farrah conducted the Training Needs Analysis, designed the course, advised the Project Implementation Board in relation to the branding of the programme ‘Embracing Equality Valuing Difference’ and prepared, coached and mentored a team of twenty trainers to deliver the programme. Farrah worked closely with the team to ensure an appropriate course was designed for the whole organisation. Some six thousand staff have completed the course. In view of the operational issues in relation to releasing manual staff, all manual staff attended a half-day course delivered with drama. The intervention has been well evaluated.
As a demonstration of our commitment to the organisations we work for local trainers were appointed, coached and mentored to join the existing training team. The drama company was also a local company.
Our approach to these projects is to assist in revitalizing local economies and untapping local talent. Members were also trained on a separate module of the course. The contract is for a three-year period.
As a result of this successful project a further consultancy was awarded to conduct an independent Corporate Assessment of the Equality Standard. This process involved consultation internally and externally with local communities.
Gateshead Council is recognised as a Council of Excellence.
